BROKEN glass on the floor and a huge hole in the front door yesterday bore silent testimony to malicious damage caused to a Despatch home – allegedly by police.

Members of the police's tactical response team (TRT) are being investigated after they allegedly broke down the front and back doors of the Maqhabase family's home in Khayamnandi in search of a man believed to be a friend of the family.

Nonyaniso Maqhabase, 62, and her granddaughter Babalwe, 9, were asleep in one room at about 2am on Wednesday while her daughter, Ntombikayise, 28, slept in another room.

"When I heard the shattering of glass, I jumped out of bed to go and see what was happening.

"I could not go far because in a second there were TRT members in my bedroom carrying torches and big guns," Nonyaniso said - Yoliswa Sobuwa
