A NUMBER of good Samaritans in Nelson Mandela Bay dug deep into their pockets yesterday to help teenager Jamie-Lee Fourie.

The 15-year-old Grade 8 Bergsig High School pupil spends her free time designing fashionable clothes from waste material.

She sells the clothing to earn money for food at home and to save up for her studies after school.

Her story in The Herald yesterday touched readers' hearts and she received a brand-new sewing machine, a sewing overlocker and material.

One of the Samaritans, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "Her story just touched me in a way that I cannot explain. I thought it would be an investment in this young lady's future to give her a brand-new machine to pursue her dreams."

Jamie-Lee's mother, Lucia, was overwhelmed by the response from readers. "May God bless them all," she said. – Alvené du Plessis
