Girlfriend 'washed bloody clothes'

THE girlfriend of one of six men accused of murdering an elderly Theescombe couple in 2009 told the Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday how her boyfriend had asked her to wash his bloody clothing a day after the murders took place.

Andiswa Thweyi, 21, of Kuyga in Greenbushes, said she was 16 years old when her boyfriend, Lukhanyo Bolo, 24, asked her to wash his bloody clothing.

Thweyi is testifying at the trial of Bolo and his co-accused, Vernol Fillis, 39, Mbulelo Breakfast, 31, Vuyo Plaatjies, 33, Makwenkwe Lunga Pamle, 24, and Zonwabo Kilani, 25.

The state alleges that the six men murdered George Venter, 78, and his wife Jacoba, 67, in their Kragga Kamma Road home on May 31 2009. The six have pleaded not guilty to charges of housebreaking with intent to rob, robbery, kidnapping and rape and two murder charges. - Lee-Anne Butler
