Girls' band ready to make a joyful noise

YESTERDAY'S church service ended on a high note for the Springdale Girls' Brigade when they swapped their old, broken instruments for brand new ones donated by their ward councillor.

After receiving one of numerous requests for new instruments for the band, ward 12 councillor Shirley Sauls came to their rescue with instruments worth R27000 for use by the brigade. They include trumpets, drums and trombones.

Excited band leader Avril Geswint said the band was a great way to keep the young girls busy and off the streets and the new instruments would "definitely encourage them to stay with their music". - Zandile Mbabela
