Driver held after cyclist injured in hit-and-run

A CYCLIST is in hospital and a motorist in custody after a hit- and-run incident near Kini Bay shortly after noon yesterday.

Freddie Alberti, 61, will have to undergo surgical procedures over the next couple of days after he was thrown from his bicycle, breaking his shoulder and pelvis, when a white Opel Corsa hit him on Seaview Road.

"My dad's in a lot of pain," his son Paul said.

Alberti, an avid cyclist, was near the Kini Bay turn-off when he was hit by the Corsa, without the driver, 29, stopping. A Kini Bay resident witnessed the accident and notified Nitrous Security co-owner Jason Grobbelaar about the incident.  – Riaan Marais
