Murderer, rapist to go for observation

THE Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday granted an application to send a 25-year-old convicted murderer and rapist to Fort England for mental observation following the man's psychotic episode in court on Monday.

Judge Phakamisa Tshiki granted the application brought by state advocate Mbulelo Nyendwana yesterday in terms of section 78 of the Criminal Procedure Act after the man's bizarre outburst following his conviction in court on Monday.

The Motherwell man, who was found guilty of murdering his mother and raping his 10-year-old sister in 2011, shocked onlookers when he began ranting in a strange language and having a violent fit.

He cannot be named to protect his sister's identity - Lee-Anne Butler
