Three killed in East Cape accidents

THREE people were killed in three separate accidents at the weekend.

On Saturday, two people – one a three-year-old child – were killed at about 7am when the Hyundai in which they were travelling overturned on the N2 near Seven Fountains outside Grahamstown.

Police said the car, driven by off-duty policeman Luyanda Mjo, 35, of Cape Town, was headed towards King William's Town. Passengers Thandeka Boloti Mjo, 32, and her daughter Asithandile Mjo, 3, were killed and the driver and another passenger seriously injured.

At about 10am, motorcyclist Mathew Johannes Lotter, 48, of Alexandria collided with an Audi in Voortrekker Road and died.

About an hour later, a Tata Indica in which three people were travelling crashed along the R72. Three women managed to escape from the car before it caught alight. – Gareth Wilson
