Former EP flyhalf Andre Vosloo dies

FORMER Olympics and Eastern Province flyhalf Andre Vosloo, 67, lost his fight against cancer in Cape Town on after a long illness.

Vosloo, who played against the 1968 British Lions and the 1970 All Blacks touring teams, will always be remembered as the flyhalf with remarkable handling skills.

He produced several noteworthy performances for EP during his illustrious career.

The most notable was probably his performance for Eastern Province when beating Western Province at Newlands in 1971.

Vosloo turned to road-running following his move to Cape Town in 1980. He took part in 13 Two Oceans marathons and three Comrades as a member of Celtic Harriers.

He was a product of Victoria Park High and also played cricket for VP Pirates.

He leaves behind his wife, Rita, son Clint and daughter Hayley.

Members of the Olympics Club are requested to meet at the clubhouse tomorrow at noon to pay their last respects.

His funeral service will be held in Cape Town, but the date has not yet been finalised. - Stan Terblanche
