Retired teachers tackle MEC on pensions

RETIRED teachers in Nelson Mandela Bay – who have been waiting for word on progress regarding their applications for the pension redress process that started 16 years ago – tearfully laid out their frustrations to Education MEC Mandla Makupula when he was in town this week.

Taking advantage of Makupula's presence in the Bay during President Jacob Zuma's visit on Tuesday, the retirees told how they had submitted all necessary forms but received no feedback from the Public Service Commission Bargaining Council (PSCBC).

Makupula, who met the group of women representing thousands across the province on Tuesday evening, led a delegation that included PSCBC director Frikkie de Bruin to deal with any queries that arose. - Zandile Mbabela
