Eastern Cape by-elections results

The DA and ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay retained control of wards 1 and 56, respectively, both clinching more than 80% of the votes in yesterday’s by-elections.

The two by-elections in the metro were among nine held across the country yesterday.

In Ward 1, the DA received 85% of the votes, followed by Independent Candidate - and former Ward 1 councillor - Stanford Slabbert with 9%, the ANC with 4% and the UDM received only 0.1% of the votes.

In Ward 56, the ANC clinched 81% of the votes, with the COPE trailing far behind with 14% and the UDM getting 3%.

In Buffalo City, the DA got 93% of the votes in Ward 4 and the ANC received only 6.8%.
