Ward committees approval pushed through

AFTER a number of failed attempts by the ANC to get the newly elected ward committees rubber-stamped by the Nelson Mandela Bay council, the party finally managed to get approval yesterday.

But their elation could be short- lived as the DA plans to launch a high court application next week to have the decision set aside.

The ANC has tried on two other occasions to get the ward committees approved, but opposition representatives stormed out of council meetings, leaving the party without a quorum.

But this did not stop the ANC from going ahead with the inauguration of the 600 community leaders from all 60 wards two weeks ago. - Rochelle de Kock
