Suspects caught in stolen cars

THE Port Elizabeth hijacking task team netted two suspects in North End yesterday.

The team received information about suspected stolen vehicles outside a club near the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court shortly before 4pm.

Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said officers pounced on the club and caught the suspects in the cars shortly after they left the venue.

The first suspect, 29, was caught in a red VW Polo, and the second suspect, 33, in a white car of the same make and model.

Both cars had fake registration numbers and licence discs, and both were reported stolen during separate hijackings in Kwazakhele in December.

"The suspects claim they bought the vehicles over the internet and were unaware that they were stolen." – Riaan Marais
