Man gets life for killing child, 5

THE Uitenhage man convicted of murdering a five-year-old girl who knocked on his door to ask for a slice of bread was yesterday sentenced to life in prison.
Dawid Booysen, 38, received the maximum sentence for the murder of Catherine Jooste in December last year, and an additional five years for attempted rape.
Port Elizabeth High Court Judge Dayalin Chetty also approved an application for Booysen's name to be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders.
Booysen applied for leave to appeal against the sentence, but Chetty rejected the application. - Lee-Anne Butler
