Teacher's tough luck a godsend for kids

AN unemployed teacher is changing lives and making homework cool for Walmer township pupils at his homework club.

Every day 123 pupils, from Grade 1 to 12, attend Bathandwa Ndwayana's Bona Bathandwa Dream Club.

The 36-year-old teacher started the club using two containers after his temporary teaching contract at Walmer High School was not renewed in 2011.

"I could not just sit and feel sorry for myself. I decided to help kids with their homework.

"We started with a small group and we have grown a lot. A lot of these kids could not read or pronounce English words," Ndwayana said. -
