Housing protests grow

NEW Brighton residents have threatened to "sabotage and make this city ungovernable" if their concerns regarding housing are not addressed.

The residents – disgruntled due to long-overdue rectification promised regarding their faulty RDP houses built after 1994 – forced the closure of the Red Location Museum in October as they protested for the municipality to focus on their housing problems.

Yesterday, they protested outside the City Hall where they demanded answers from mayor Ben Fihla, whom they said promised in a letter in June last year that work would start on their houses at the beginning of this year.

Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said the mayor's office had received the people's complaint and a meeting would be arranged for some time next week. - Yoliswa Sobuwa
