School strike on hold for now

THE looming teachers' strike scheduled to start tomorrow has been suspended after intervention by the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC).
The strike stems from a pay dispute between the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) and the Department of Basic Education dating back to 2009.
Teachers are the only ones receiving a 1% pay progression while other public servants receive 1.5%. – Gareth Wilson
