Schools turn rubbish into cash
By TMG Editor - 06 March 2014
THE Northern Areas People Development Initiative (Napdi) is setting up green zones at schools around Helenvale as part of a flagship project. Five schools and 250 pupils are involved in the pilot programme, which is part of the Helenvale Recycling Initiative (Heri). The schools are Bayview, Hillcrest and Helenvale primary and Chapman and Gelvan high. Pupils bring unwanted papers, plastic or cans to the schools for recycling and there are incentives like vouchers and airtime for those who collect the most. Bayview Primary has 41 pupils registered for the programme. - Jose Assam
