NMB Municipality implements load shedding

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is currently implementing a load shedding schedule as directed by Eskom.

Group 5 (New Brighton, Seaview, Walker Drive and Brickmakerskloof amongst others) and group 6 (Vuyisile Mini Square, Newton Park area and Linton Grange amongst others) will be off until approximately 12:00 today, spokesman Kupido Baron said in a statement on Thursday (06/03/14).

Eskom declared an emergency on Thursday morning and will start power cuts from 9am, a spokesman confirmed.

“There will be load shedding in different suburbs across the country,” said Eskom spokesman Andrew Etzinger.

Eskom on Thursday urged consumers to switch off all non-essential appliances to reduce the impact of rotational power cuts.

“Eskom calls on consumers to urgently switch off geysers, pool pumps, and all non-essential appliances throughout the day,” it said in a statement.

Power cuts would be stopped if the necessary savings were made and the situation improved and customers were warned to treat all electrical connections as live during the cuts. The power cuts were announced earlier and were scheduled to last from 9am to 10pm.
