“Monster husband” gets 40 years

THE tables were turned on "monster" husband Freddie Gordon – who kept his wife locked up and beat, burnt and raped her at will – when he was sentenced to 40 years in prison yesterday.
He will have to serve at least 25 years before he is eligible for parole.
State Advocate Andre Kirchner told the court Gordon had laughed throughout proceedings and had shown no remorse.
Gordon's wife, Avril, 54, who had to undergo numerous reconstructive surgeries on her mutilated face and body, was overcome with emotion after the final gavel was sounded in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court.
She said she looked forward to moving on with her life. -
