R3m cost of address not premier's responsibility

EASTERN Cape premier Noxolo Kiviet has refused to shoulder any responsibility for the cost of her recent state of the province address, saying she had no control over decisions made by the legislature.

Speaking at The New Age Business Breakfast in East London yesterday, Kiviet said she did not decide to spend R3-million on her address and therefore it was unfair to blame her for decisions taken by the legislature.

The amount – which is R2.7-million less than the cost of President Jacob Zuma's state of the nation address last month – has been criticised as wasteful, particularly for a province that has massive service delivery shortcomings.
