Jim demands Cosatu meeting minutes

Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim is requesting the minutes of the meeting where a suggestion to suspend or expel the metal workers’ union from its affiliation to Cosatu was discussed.

In Jim’s letter to Cosatu’s deputy general secretary, Mbeki Ntshalintshali, sent on Thursday (13/02/14), he asked for the full attendance register circulated at the labour federation’s Special Central Executive Committee meeting held on Monday.

He also wants all the details of the and the names of the delegates who suggested that Numsa be sent a letter informing them of the “preliminary view that Numsa should be suspended or expelled” from Cosatu.

“We believe and regard the position your letter communicates to us as potentially having the greatest impact, post 1994, on Cosatu,” Jim said in his letter.

“Should you fail to furnish us with the details we request...by 12:00pm on the 15th of February 2014, we will be unable to timeously reply to your letter.  In such circumstances, any steps to either suspend or dismiss Numsa would simply be invalid.”
