60000 arrest warrants still outstanding

A REPORT on Nelson Mandela Bay's traffic department revealed shocking details of a unit that is battling to do basic law enforcement, with more than 60000 warrants of arrest outstanding in November last year.
The report also highlights how the municipality is losing out on millions of rands by not executing all the warrants of arrest issued by the courts.
The report, which was presented to councillors at the safety and security portfolio committee on Friday, showed that of the 3276 warrants of arrest issued in November – worth R1.324-million – only 560 were actually executed.
This means only 560 motorists were forced to pay their traffic fines by officers as well as contempt of court fines.
