Court battle over R1.9bn transport contract far from over

A COURT battle between two companies – both believing they deserve a five-year R1.9-billion pupil transport contract – and the Department of Transport, which last year decided to cancel the deal, is nowhere near resolution.

An application and counter application by two competing companies were last week postponed indefinitely by the Grahamstown High Court.

Mthatha company Trackstar Trading 256 last year challenged the department's decision in September not to award the tender.

The department instead decided to extend the contract with the existing controversial contractor, One Future Development 46, a consortium of the Eastern Cape Bus and Taxi Business Chamber.
