Disruptions likely on road to wind farm

MOTORISTS travelling between the Port of Ngqura at Coega outside Port Elizabeth and St Francis and Oyster Bay near Humansdorp are requested to exercise caution and patience between today and Friday when large components will be moved as abnormal loads to the Kouga Wind Farm.

The loads, which comprise turbine components, will be shipped in containers today in six loads throughout the day. From tomorrow until Friday, three loads of separate sets of blades will be transported each day, with all the loads expected to arrive in Humansdorp by 11am each day. All these shipments will travel via the N2 past Port Elizabeth to Humansdorp.

There are no plans at any stage to close off any sections of the R330 between Humansdorp and St Francis, but the road will be temporarily disrupted for oncoming traffic while the abnormal load turns left onto the R330 in Humansdorp and at the Oyster Bay turnoff. In addition, oncoming traffic might have to be pulled off temporarily while the loads pass by.

Traffic officials will be in constant contact with the escort vehicles to ensure appropriate action for emergency vehicles should the need arise.
