Cops 'had hand in sickly son's death'

A NELSON Mandela Bay grandmother has accused police of brutality and contributing to the death of her son through mistaken identity – an allegation officers say they are investigating.

Grieving Nombulelo Tomsana, 61, of Motherwell, said her son Sivuyile, 29, suffered from kidney failure, but died shortly after allegedly being tortured by police who were looking for his elder brother.

The pensioner claimed her NU8 Somi Street house had been raided and ransacked several times by police looking for her older son, Siviwe, 31, who was being sought in connection with a stabbing.

Tomsana said during one of the raids last year, Sivuyile was targeted by officers who pounced on him thinking he was his older brother.
