THE Herald readers have voted – and the public figure they most loved to hate in 2013 is Jacob Zuma.
The president, who has been enjoying his fire-pool and other amenities paid for by the taxpayer at his rural Nkandla home in KwaZuluNatal over the festive season, becomes the newspaper’s first Hooligan of the Year.
Readers chose him way over 11 other local and national figures nominated by The Herald editorial staff, with more than half the total reader votes cast on the SMS voting line – 391 out of 693 – going to Zuma.
In second place was Port Elizabeth wife beater Frederick Gordon, who faces sentencing next year for savage attacks on his wife, Avril.
