KNYSNA municipal manager Lauren Waring’s husband and mother were killed in a horrific head-on collision involving three vehicles on the N9 between Aberdeen and Willowmore on Saturday.

Waring and her nine-year-old daughter were also hurt in the collision in which her husband, Eric Goodwin, 44, and mother, Carol-Ann Waring, 70, died.

A passenger in one of the vehicles, Latvian national Georgs Mote, 49, was also killed.

Waring and her daughter were admitted to the Mediclinic in George where she underwent surgery for fractures. The little girl’s collarbone was also broken in the accident.

Acting municipal manager Bevan Ellman said Waring and her family were on their way to visit family in Mpumalanga when the tragedy happened at 11.45am.

Willowmore police spokesman Captain Henry Leslie said it appeared two Latvian tourists who were in a Honda Jazz tried to overtake an SUV carrying eight passengers.

“The woman driver tried to overtake the SUV but collided head-on with a white Daihatsu sedan, driven by the Knysna municipal manager,” Leslie said.

“The Daihatsu flipped over and hit the SUV which also flipped on to its side before coming to a standstill.

“The Latvian driver was admitted to the George Mediclinic for treatment.”

Leslie said a culpable homicide case had been opened.
