Stories of PE homeless told on screen

THE lives of some of Port Elizabeth’s homeless people have been captured in a documentary due for broadcast on national television next month.

Die Wiel Draai (the wheel keeps turning), an Amyotype Media production, is the latest in a string of documentaries by independent filmmaker Justin Oliphant.

Oliphant, Amyotype’s creative director and managing director, was assisted by business partners Robert Wentzel and Thomas Wewers, and the crew – production manager Warda Mallick, director of photography Clayton Thom, second camera operator Jordan Oliphant (Justin’s son) and sound technician Bulelani Scott – are all from Nelson Mandela Bay.

Oliphant said the original story had changed a few times as their first two main characters ended up in prison separately and they were not allowed to film in prison.
