IT may have been low- key in general cricketing terms, but the excitement was at fever pitch last week at Gelvandale after Grey schoolboy Heath Richards achieved one of the game’s rarest feats when he hit six sixes in an over.
The 12-year-old batsman was playing for EP against Kei in the regional under-13 tournament when, after hitting the first three sixes of the final over for six, he decided to go for broke.
“It really was very exciting and I couldn’t believe what I had done,” Heath said yesterday as he recalled the moment.
Cricket SA statistician Andrew Samson said there were no world records at junior level so it was difficult to assess where Heath’s achievement would slot in.
Yet it is such a rare feat in cricket that only five players at provincial level or higher have done it in the history of the game.
