A HIT squad linked to the notorious 28 prison gang is believed to be responsible for the execution of at least 40 key state witnesses in robbery and hijacking cases in Nelson Mandela Bay over the past year.
Several of the bodies have been found dumped in the bushes on the outskirts of Motherwell.
The first murder of a witness took place last year, while the latest two occurred two weeks ago.
The growing body count prompted police to form a special task team four months ago, just after the murder of a hijacking victim two days before she was to testify.
The hit squad consists of more than 15 members who allegedly orchestrate the executions while behind bars at St Albans Prison.
