AN avalanche of fireworks filled the sky with golden stars in a spectacular opening of the festive season in Nelson Mandela Bay last night.
Thousands of people lined Hobie Beach to see the fireworks, cheering and applauding enthusiastically as the 30-minute display blasted off.
Organisers said between 30000 and 35000 people packed the beaches near Shark Rock Pier for the event.
People jostled for a good spot from early in the evening, while boat and yacht owners lined their vessels up for the best view of all.
