AS OFFICIAL plans for Madiba’s massive send-off at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday gather momentum, mourners came together at several Bay venues yesterday to celebrate their fallen hero through song, dance, prayer and the sharing of memories.
Residents, clergy and political leaders, including mayor Ben Fihla, MEC Pemmy Majodina and speaker Maria Hermans, attended a lively late afternoon service at St John’s Methodist Church in Central, Port Elizabeth.
The three-hour interfaith service, which began with the lighting of candles by children, was run by the Reverend Zweli Tom, with Bishop Musi Losaba delivering the sermon.
