MPILO Mbambisa is Nelson Mandela Bay’s new city boss.

Mbambisa, who has been acting city manager since August, was appointed for a five-year term by the council after a heated debate at a closed meeting in its chambers on Friday.

The council also appointed Mod Ndoyana as corporate services director and Kumaran Nair as chief financial officer (CFO).

Deputy mayor Chippa Ngcolomba yesterday confirmed the three appointments and said they were hoping to fill all director positions by February.

The appointments come just weeks after the NationalTreasury put pressure on the municipality to appoint a permanent city manager and CFO by the end of January if it wanted to keep the R272-million the city was given to build infrastructure for its bus system.
