HANKEY and Humansdorp residents shrugged off the pouring rain yesterday to cast their ballots in one of the Eastern Cape’s most crucial by-elections.
The results of the poll, expected to be released this morning, will see the ANC either retain control of the Kouga Municipality or relinquish it to the DA.
By 7.30pm yesterday, 3486 residents had voted in Hankey while 1586 had cast their ballots in Humansdorp.
While Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) presiding officers said there had been no incidents, DA MP Elza van Lingen complained that ANC supporters had blocked some roads near the voting station in Hankey and were intimidating DA members.
