A SENIOR Livingstone Hospital nurse who has dedicated nearly 40 years of her life to the profession was recently named a runner-up in the national Marilyn Lahana Nursing Awards.
Ryna Bakkes, 56, was among several nurses honoured at a ceremony in Pretoria earlier this month. She was also the provincial winner.
The awards, hosted by the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) commemorate Marilyn Lahana, a Johannesburg nurse whose courage and selflessness in placing the interest of her patients above her own, cost her her life.
