ANGRY small business owners protested outside Nelson Mandela Bay’s Feather Market Centre yesterday to put pressure on council to allocate to them a bigger share of the city’s contracts.
The group of about 100 sang outside the hall and police were called in to prevent them from going inside where a council meeting was in progress.
The group demanded mayor Ben Fihla come out to address them, but he did not and they later dispersed.
The group’s spokesman, Nceba Dywili, said they wanted the city to force construction companies to sub-contract at least 30% of their work to black-owned small businesses.
