Bungle sees murder suspect freed

WANTED MAN: Khangelani Matebe, possibly armed and dangerousA SUSPECT in the murder of a Port Elizabeth man has disappeared after the Correctional Services Department released him on parole without checking if there were any other cases pending against him.

Khangelani Matebe, 25, was due to appear in the Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday along with five other men – Fundile Nqwensu, 20, Luyanda Nkolose, 25, Mzuvukile Foli, 24, Fuzile Kosana, 23, and Athenkosi Mtshayisa, 20 – charged with the August 2010 murder, torture and kidnapping of St Albans resident Floris Kruger, 60.

While being held for Kruger’s murder, Matebe and Nqwensu were also charged with murder and housebreaking with the intent to rob in connection with the death of another St Albans resident, Jan Bergsman, 86, who was found seriously injured in his house in July 2010.
