AN AFTERNOON spent looking for mussels at Kings Beach turned into a tragedy on Saturday when a man disappeared near the Port Elizabeth harbour wall.
The body of Port Elizabeth industrial refrigeration technician Andrew Dalton, 28, was found partially submerged under water at around 10am yesterday, not far from where he went missing.
A friend became worried when Dalton failed to return to the beach after being in the water since about 2pm on Saturday.
A search – including the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), East Cape Coastal Water Rescue and Fire and Rescue services – was launched at about 6pm.
Dalton’s father, David Dalton, 62, said yesterday his son’s death was a “freak accident”.
