Dancewear shop faces closure

A WELL-known Nelson Mandela Bay dancewear shop in Mount Croix could be forced to close its doors after the municipality turned down its application to operate as a house shop, following a complaint from a neighbour that customers blocked his driveway.

The municipality said the neighbour had insisted that the Little Cherub dancewear shop, which is operating from an outbuilding in a residential area, was negatively impacting on his property and should be shut down.

Little Cherub, which supplies dance and active wear to dancers and gymnasts in the Eastern Cape, has been operating for the past 12 years. It is one of only three such shops in the Bay.

The city said allowing the shop to continue operating would set “an undesirable precedent” which could see residents in other areas following suit.
