PORT Elizabeth trampolinist Bianca Zoonekynd is riding the crest of a wave after breaking a world record at the World Trampoline Senior Championships in Bulgaria.
Zoonekynd, from Theescombe, broke the world record in the highest difficulty level of the open women’s routine on double-mini trampoline with 8.5 points, smashing the previous best of 8.0 set by Canada’s Julie Warnock 11 years ago.
The 21-year-old earned a gold medal for her efforts as she beat some of the world’s best exponents of the sport last week.
Coached by her mother Mandy, Zoonekynd had dreamt of winning a gold medal at the World Championships, but breaking the record was a bonus, she said.
