RESIDENTS of Peace Village in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, are calling for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to fix a sewerage pump that continuously blocks, causing sewerage drains and pipes to burst and overflow.
Residents said the pump could not transport large quantities of sewage due to its “small-diameter size”.
Ward councillor Loyiso Stemele said the municipality installed incorrectly sized pipes, of 140mm and 160mm diameter, instead of 200mm.
Resident Cynthia Tyala, 58, said a sewerage pipe had been overflowing for about two weeks inside her yard.
