Kangaroo love for premature babies

IT was with prayer, hope and the encouragement not to give up that mothers, doctors and nurses celebrated World Prematurity Day on Saturday – joyfully acknowledging the babies who made it and quietly mourning those who had not.

Neonatal staff also took advantage of the opportunity to reiterate the importance of interventions to decrease child mortality rates.

Sister Violet Jezile, who runs the neonatal unit at Dora Nginza Hospital, said kangaroo mother care played a major role in this regard.
