‘Druglocks’ excels in Thai jail

IT has been nearly two years since Nolubabalo Nobanda was arrested trying to smuggle more than 1kg of drugsinto Thailand and the young Grahamstown woman has put that time to good use.

The 25-year-old was arrested after being caught by Thai custom officials with 1.5kg of cocaine hidden in fake dreadlocks at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on December 13 2011.

She gained notoriety as the “druglocks” girl.

Nobanda was fined R250000 and handed a 30-year jail sentence which was reduced to 15 years after shecooperated with authorities.
