FEARS that a decaying whale carcass could attract sharks to the area have prompted a shark alert for Port Elizabeth’s southern beaches. The beaches closed to bathing are Kings Beach, Humewood, Hobie Beach and Pollok Beach.
The warning will remain in effect until at least tomorrow. The humpback whale was found floating about 300m off Pollok Beach, near Something Good, yesterday morning.
A massive operation was launched later to drag the carcass further out to sea in the hope that the current would carry it to less populated areas.
