Angry residents demand land to build houses

MORE than 150 backyard dwellers from the KwaLanga and McNaughton informal settlements, tired of waiting for houses, took matters into their own hands at the weekend and levelled a piece of land along Kamesh Road in Uitenhage.

Armed with spades and metre-long sticks, the residents levelled what they referred to as their plots on a 2km² stretch of land between 20th Avenue and Duiker Crescent.

They also forced authorities to close down Kamesh Road as they burnt tyres and threw rubbish about.
