Victoria drive a rubbish dump as refuse strike continues

Victoria Drive in Walmer resembled a rubbish dump yesterday as Nelson Mandela Bay refuse collection workers protested for a third day.

About 20 protesters refused the public entry to the Arlington tip, blocking the entrance with four municipal trucks, grabbing refuse from their vehicles and strewing it around Victoria Drive.

Workers from Uitenhage, Despatch, Motherwell, Struandale, Gail Road and Harrower Road depots are demanding to be paid dirt and supervisors’ allowances. They are also upset that truck drivers with code 14 licences receive the same salary as code 8 and 10 drivers
