IPTS hell for motorists

Lee-Anne Butler

MOTORISTS in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas have expressed frustration regarding the duration of roadworks in Stanford Road as a result of the construction of dedicated bus lanes for the Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS).

The roadworks have seen three- lane traffic in Stanford Road reduced to two lanes from Gelvan Park to the Cleary Park shopping centre, causing huge backlogs during peak hours. However, according to some motorists, the construction also sometimes spills over into another lane, making only one lane available to vehicles.

Also, the corner of Gail Road in Gelvandale and Stanford Road has been closed for several months, increasing frustration for motorists.
