FORMER National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) chairman Andile Lungisa’s R1.2-million luxury Mercedes-Benz AMG was written off in a crash at the weekend, allegedly by his sister’s boyfriend who attempted to evade police during a high-speed car chase.

Sibusiso Mafalala, 30, who has not yet been charged as the investigation continues, crashed while allegedly attempting to race away from police along the busy Strandfontein Road in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth, at about 10pm on Sunday.

During the pursuit, Mafalala hit a street light and the car rolled for about 80m after launching off a middle island at the intersection of Winchester Street and Strandfontein Road. The vehicle came to a standstill against a tree.
