IN KEEPING with the growing need to become technologically savvy, a Nelson Mandela Bay school will be phasing in the compulsory use of tablets by their pupils, starting with the Grade 8 class next year.
About 200 Samsung Galaxy tablets, which were handed over to Linkside High School during a launch on Friday, will come complete with the Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (Caps) textbooks – which will be introduced to Grade 8 next year.
The joint initiative between the school, Samsung and textbook publisher Via Afrika, is worth R750000. will enable pupils to access their textbooks in the form of highly interactive e-books, and other electronic resources, through a recently installed Wi-Fi network that came with a R250000 price tag.
