THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is hoping to obtain a court order next month to evict 72 families illegally occupying RDP houses in Chatty.
Human settlements portfolio committee head Buyisile Mkavu yesterday said the city was awarded an interim order by the Port Elizabeth High Court last week to evict 160 families who had illegally moved into the newly built houses in Chatty’s Marikana area 1380 last month.
While some had complied with the order, 72 families were still in the houses, Mkavu said. The city was going back to court on November 14 to apply for a permanent order, which he hoped would also deter other residents from moving into the houses.
